some work, some inspiration & a proposition for you

I've stepped in to a space - a perceptive space - where there is nothing but art. This is a good space. Time for EXPLORATION, DEVELOPMENT OF IDEAS, DISCUSSIONS. The place of 'do' which inevitably leads to a place of transformation. See new work above..........

It strikes me that whilst I love collage, my whole life is collaged. It has not been a seamless transition between stages, but a disparate collection of parts assembled together. Maybe a reason I'm drawn to collage in my art-practice. I read this today:

"Collage makes a direct connection to the brain's readiness to associate, to form bridges between objects and spaces, times and places. But it also shatters patterns, disrupts control and breaks laws." Taken from Grit To Gold: Collaging the Abstract, Press Release, Standpoint Gallery. And it SUMS up the feelings I have toward my own desire to collage. A process through which to explore feeling, emotion; a desire to re-order and own; disrupt and rupture.......

And so I build. Watch. Learn. Do.

A session with Graham Crowley left a burning, erupting feeling. Intense blocks of creating. Delving deep in to the process of, and relationship with, the immediate materials around me. I want to write all the things I learnt and came away with, but there is too much. I will share another time.

The art I saw today: Keith Tyson - dramatic envelopes into other worlds inspired by music, poetry and personal ephemera and experience. Mariko Mori - you must see this - a ledge or portal into another world or dimension. I saw the White Hole. Sat absorbed. I love how art transports and questions.

Then the works of John Bunker, Frank Bowling and Scott O'Rourke at Standpoint and listening to a discussion between the three artists which leads me back to one place right now: the studio and process, process, process. Explore the process and if it 'fails' push it further, work it harder, do not give up.

I thank you for the recent sales of my art-work, for the inspiration from those doing my experimental art e-course with great work, for the discussions with my fatherand other inspired artists and makers. And gratitude for those supporting artlacuna endeavours via sponsume (I am inspired making many collages at the moment :) and for those coming to our pre-launch night here. Do come, and if you are inspired please be an open mic speaker? We are inviting those within the arts and creative spheres to share the influences and processes in and on your work.... your invitation to share and reveal process and influence......... be in touch if you are interested.

Time to work. I will see you on the 21st :)
